The client, an oil refinery company, needed to integrate environmental compliance information from Enablon to their SAP system for field teams to use during the process of merging their newly acquired subsidiary into the parent company. They faced a challenge of data mapping and team access during the integration process. They hired a team to help with the integration and process optimization to ensure seamless data transfer and no disruptions to the merger.
Business Solutions
A solution was developed to integrate environmental compliance information from Enablon to SAP for the client, an oil refinery company, during the process of merging their newly acquired subsidiary into the parent company. The solution involved system integration of custom connectors and interfaces for seamless data transfer, data validation and quality control, and process optimization by automating manual processes, creating new procedures, training relevant teams and providing ongoing support. This allowed the client to effectively manage their environmental compliance information and complete the merger process without disruptions.
Technical Solutions
To address the challenge of integrating environmental compliance information from Enablon to SAP, our team developed a technical solution that involved the creation of a consumer proxy web service. This web service was specifically designed to be called by the middleware CPI (Cloud Platform Integration) as soon as it received new information from Enablon.
Once the web service was triggered, it would create a new Work Order (WO) in SAP PM (Plant Maintenance) using the information received from Enablon. The web service would then respond back to Enablon via CPI with the corresponding information, such as the WO number, status, and other relevant details.
Additionally, we also developed other interfaces that would carry information of completed WO's back to Enablon. This would allow Enablon to update its records and complete the task at their end. These interfaces were designed to be bi-directional, so that any updates made in SAP PM would also be reflected in Enablon.
To ensure the data consistency, data validation and error handling were implemented on all interfaces. The system was also regularly monitored and troubleshooted to ensure it was running smoothly and any issues were resolved quickly.
Overall, the technical solution we developed allowed for seamless data transfer between Enablon and SAP PM, and made it easy for teams in the field to access the relevant information. With this integration in place, the client was able to effectively manage their environmental compliance information and complete the merger process without disruptions.
Technologies/Skills Used
In order to implement the technical solution to integrate environmental compliance information from Enablon to SAP, our team leveraged a combination of two key technologies: SAP ABAP and SAP CPI (Cloud Platform Integration).
We used SAP ABAP to develop the consumer proxy web service that was responsible for creating new Work Orders in SAP PM and responding back to Enablon with the corresponding information.
SAP CPI (Cloud Platform Integration) is a cloud-based integration platform that allows for the integration of various systems and applications. We used SAP CPI as the middleware to connect Enablon and SAP PM, and to facilitate the data transfer between the two systems. With SAP CPI, we were able to create a seamless integration that allowed for real-time data transfer and ensured that the teams working in the field had access to the most up-to-date information.
In addition to SAP ABAP and SAP CPI, we also used other tools and technologies to ensure the smooth functioning of the system, such as data validation and error handling, monitoring and troubleshoot.
Overall, the use of these technologies allowed us to effectively integrate Enablon and SAP PM, and provide the client with a solution that met their needs and allowed them to effectively manage their environmental compliance information as they merged their subsidiary into the parent company.
